Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 Review
The 9.4 IMDb rating is the headline, but the episode earns it through emotion, not spectacle. This review’s writer ranks it as the strongest episode of the new season so far, and the score did not surprise him.
In his view, the episode works because it stops treating Nacht as just a sarcastic, shadow-wielding vice-captain. It shows the guilt he has carried for years. The title “The Day of Atonement” fits that idea. Nacht fights less for glory than to make peace with what he did.
The writer also argues that this is Black Clover at its best: character drama first, big magic battles second. Whether it is the highest-rated episode in the franchise is something to check on IMDb’s current rankings. A 9.4 is exceptional by any standard.
Who Is Morgen in Black Clover?
Morgen Faust is Nacht Faust’s twin brother and a former nobleman of House Faust. He had Light Magic, wanted to help everyone, and became a Magic Knight in the Gray Deer Squad, where he became friends with Yami.
That makes Morgen the emotional opposite of Nacht. He was bright and optimistic, while Nacht was cynical.
Nacht and Morgen Faust Backstory
The Faust Twins and House Faust
Nacht and Morgen grew up in the noble Faust family. They were twin sons of that house, but their attitudes were opposite. Light Magic against Dark Magic is the core of their story. Morgen’s attribute was Light, and he was not fit to inherit the Faust family’s rite.
Morgen and Yami Sukehiro
Morgen’s friendship with Yami Sukehiro matters because it links the brothers to the Black Bulls’ captain. That bond is why Yami stands beside Nacht in the later story.
The Forbidden Devil-Binding Ritual
Morgen’s death is the tragedy at the heart of Nacht’s past. He died because of a forbidden devil-binding ritual. He tried to talk Nacht out of using dark magic, but the ritual summoned a devil.
This is also where Nacht’s devil magic comes from. He later formed contracts with four devils: Gimodelo, Slotos, Plumede, and Walgner. That is the foundation of his Devil Union power.
Is Nacht Older or Younger Than Morgen?
Sources disagree. Some describe Morgen as the younger twin, while others call Nacht the older brother. Until the anime states it clearly, it is safest to call them twins.
Manga Spoilers: Paladin Morgen Faust
Skip this section if you only watch the anime.
In the manga, Morgen returns as a Paladin. Reports on the Black Clover chapters describe a heartbreaking fight in which Yami and Nacht face Morgen. The anime’s Nacht flashback is the setup for that confrontation, so Episode 4 is worth rewatching if you read ahead. sportskeeda
