Get Shiny Zorua in Pokemon Go Event 2026
The Pokemon GO Pokopia event is live until March 16, 2026, and the community is losing its mind. Running from March 10 at 10 a.m. to March 16 at 8 p.m.
local time, the event celebrates the Nintendo Switch 2 release of Pokemon Pokopia and brings an increased chance to encounter Shiny Sudowoodo and Shiny Zorua, plus the debut of costumed Ditto.
Whether you are here because you just wasted your Master Ball or because you want every last shiny this event has to offer, here is everything you need to know right now.
1. The Zorua Master Ball Scare: Pokemon Go Pokopia Event
This is the event’s number one viral topic, and for good reason. Players are opening Pokemon Go, seeing what looks like a wild Mewtwo or a Galarian Bird on the map, throwing their precious Master Ball, and watching in horror as it transforms into a Zorua.
Here is the cold, hard truth: Zorua disguises itself as whatever Pokemon you have set as your buddy, so if a “wild legendary” on your map looks exactly like your current buddy, it is Zorua 100% of the time. Pokémon GO Hub: No exceptions.
The disguise also comes with a telltale sign: the fake Pokemon will wear a Best Buddy Ribbon, and the ribbon icon will appear above its CP rating. If you see either of those, put the Master Ball away immediately.
How to never fall for it again:
The easiest way to avoid being tricked is to set your buddy as something that does not typically spawn in the wild — legendaries or Pokemon that only hatch from eggs are great choices. That way, if you ever see that Pokemon appearing as a wild spawn, you will know with certainty it is Zorua.
Also worth knowing: the Galarian Birds have such a low catch rate that their catch circles will always appear dark red. If you see one of those birds with a green, yellow, or orange circle, it is not a real Galarian Bird.
2. Shiny Odds: Zorua vs. Sudowoodo: Which One Should You Grind?
Both Shiny Zorua and Shiny Sudowoodo are boosted during the Pokopia Celebration event. Community research from Silph Road 2026 suggests a rate of approximately 1 in 64 for both during the event window, which is dramatically better than the standard 1 in 512 outside of events. If you are a shiny hunter, right now is the time to grind.
One important note for Zorua hunters: you will not know if a Zorua is Shiny until after you catch it, since the disguise will mirror your buddy exactly, Shiny status included. Just because that wild spawn looked Shiny does not mean the Zorua underneath will be.
For Sudowoodo, what you see is what you get. It spawns directly on the map with no disguise, making it the more straightforward of the two to shiny hunt. Both are equally worth your time this weekend before the event closes on March 16.
3. The Costumed Ditto Mystery: How to Actually Find Hat Ditto and Cap Ditto
For the first time in Pokemon GO history, trainers can encounter two unique costumed Dittos: Ditto wearing a festive hat and Ditto sporting a stylish cap. The catch? They do not appear as Ditto on the map.
Ditto has a rotating list of disguises, and during the Pokopia Celebration event, it is hiding behind a new set of species. The following Pokemon may actually be a Costumed Ditto in disguise: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Hitmonchan, Scyther, Marill, Sudowoodo, Combee, Drilbur, Timburr, and Goomy. Catch as many of these as you can, and one will eventually reveal itself as a Costumed Ditto underneath.
Costumed Ditto encounters may also come with an event-themed Special Background, and they are a guaranteed reward from Timed Research and Collection Challenges. If you want to make sure you get both the Hat and Cap versions, complete those research tasks before March 16 at 8 p.m. local time.
4. The 10x XP Strategy: How to Power Level Right Now
This event includes 2x XP for spinning PokeStops and 10x XP for spinning PokeStops for the very first time. That second bonus is the one blowing up in searches right now, and the reason is simple: it stacks with a Lucky Egg.
A standard first-time PokeStop spin gives 250 XP. With the 10x event bonus, that becomes 2,500 XP. Pop a Lucky Egg on top of that, and you are looking at over 4,000 XP from a single spin. For players leveling up or grinding towards Level 40 and beyond, this is one of the best XP opportunities the game has offered in months.
Pro tips to maximize the grind:
- Activate your Lucky Egg before visiting any new PokeStops
- Plan a route through a new neighborhood, shopping area, or city district you have never explored in-game
- Combine the walk with catching event spawns to stack XP from catches on top of PokeStop spins
- Several powerful XP multipliers are active simultaneously during this event, so stacking them correctly can lead to massive experience gains in a short session.
